PAGE president Datin Noor Azimah Abdul Rahim says students must be told that Isis does not represent true Islamic teachings. – The Malaysian Insider file pic, February 19, 2015.An education activist today urged schools and institutes of higher learning in the country to warn students of the danger of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (Isis), following the latest arrest of a teenage girl over her involvement in the militant group yesterday.Datin Noor Azimah Abdul Rahim, who heads Parent Action Group for Education Malaysia (PAGE), said students must be told that Isis did not represent true Islamic teachings."The Isis issue seems to be getting worse and more widespread, so we must prevent youths from getting involved, while schools and adults must explain to them the actual activities of the Isis."If a student is living far from his parents, the place where he is studying, as well as the nearest relatives, teachers and communities must play their part and be vigilant by supervising the activities of the (said) student," Noor Azimah was quoted by national news agency Bernama today.On Tuesday, a 14-year-old Malaysian girl on her way to join the militant organisation was detained by police at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport"She wanted to join the 'jihad' in Syria, she was influenced by propaganda on Facebook," inspector-general of police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said yesterday.At least 39 Malaysians have been officially identified as being involved with Isis in Syria, whose aim is to set up an Islamic caliphate in the region, and who has been behind a series of brutal mass murders. – February 19, 2015.
